(Las Vegas, NV) "The Nevada Democratic Party and its officials have taken great effort to maintain our neutrality in the presidential campaign and the integrity of our process. Today, two out of three Nevadans who caucused chose a Democrat instead of a Republican for president. That is an overwhelming majority vote for a new direction. Just like in Iowa, what was awarded today were delegates to the County Convention, of which Senator Clinton won the majority. No national convention delegates were awarded. That said, if the delegate preferences remain unchanged between now and April 2008, the calculations of national convention delegates being circulated by the Associated Press are correct. We look forward to our county and state conventions where we will choose the delegates for the nominee that Nevadans support."

Staff members from the Nevada Democratic Party have counted the number of eligible caucus goers in the nine at-large precinct caucuses on the Las Vegas Strip.  The number of delegates that will be elected at today’s at-large caucuses will be:

Wynn: 79 delegates
Bellagio: 62 delegates
Mirage: 69 delegates
Paris: 61 delegates
Luxor: 77 delegates
New York New York: 34 delegates
Rio: 28 delegates
Flamingo: 49 delegates
Caesars Palace: 33 delegates

These delegates have been allotted based on attendance at each individual at-large precinct caucus.  The at-large delegates will be awarded today in addition to the 10,446 delegates already allocated to Nevada’s 1,754 neighborhood precincts.

• Thirty-one percent of the voting age population is minority – and more than 20 percent of Nevada’s voting age population is Hispanic.
• Of Nevada’s 1,754 precincts, 40 percent have at least 25 percent minority population.  That means almost half of the delegates our state elects comes from diverse districts.

• 15 percent of Nevadans belong to a labor union, providing Democrats an opportunity to speak directly to the issues of workers and their families.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich and his wife Elizabeth were in Nevada last weekend speaking to a crowd at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Saturday, December 8th. Congressman Kucinich spoke on many issues including Yucca Mtn., the war in Iraq and renewable energy.

The Nevada State Democratic Party recently held a community mock caucus at Rancho High School on Saturday, December 9th. Democratic Presidential candidate Bill Richardson addressed the crowd, announcing the endorsement of State Senator Maggie Carlton and talked on the issues.

The Nevada State Democratic Party recently held a successful mock caucus in Mineral County. State Party Chairwoman Jill Derby attended the mock caucus, which was held at the El Capitan Hotel, and drew around 15 people who left energized and excited about the historic January 19th caucus.

Channel 3 in Las Vegas recently attended a mock caucus that we conducted at Legacy High School, as part of a program done in conjunction with the Clark County School District. 

Over the last two weeks, the Nevada State Democratic Party has held multiple Temporary Chair and caucus volunteer trainings throughout the state of Nevada to teach our volunteers how to run a successful precinct caucus on Saturday, January 19th.

According to CNN, the November 15th debate that aired live from Las Vegas in the Cox Pavilion on UNLV campus attracted more than 4 million viewers, making Las Vegas’ debate the most watched primary debate on record!

On Tuesday, October 16th, the Nevada State Democratic Party held a successful mock caucus at Valley High School in Clark County with all of the school’s seniors — more than 450 students.

SANTA FE, NM -- Governor Bill Richardson today became the first Democratic Presidential candidate to officially sign the Four State Pledge Letter that promises he will not campaign in any state which schedules a Presidential election primary or caucus before February 5, 2008. The pledge was authored by Democratic officials in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina and is designed to support the Democratic National Committee's sanctioned primary and caucus schedule, thereby avoiding chaos in the nominating process.

The Biden for President Campaign issued the following statement from campaign manager, Luis Navarro, in response to the pledge released by the Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina Democratic Parties.

Las Vegas, Nevada – Senator John Edwards today signed the “Four State Pledge” to show his support of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina.  By signing the pledge, Edwards has agreed not to campaign in any state, other than the 4 designated early states, that schedules a presidential primary or caucus before February 5, 2008.  The pledge is written and sponsored by the State Democratic Parties in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina.

Last week Senator Hillary Clinton became the first presidential candidate to open an office in Pahrump, Nevada. The opening of this office comes on the heels of the Senator’s visit to Pahrump on August 13th, where she drew a crowd of over 2,500 people at a local skating rink.

Rep. Shelley Berkley hosted a successful “mock caucus” Wednesday to help educate Nevadans about the caucus process as part of a statewide effort by the Nevada Democratic Party to educate Nevadans on the Jan. 19 presidential caucuses. 

About 80 people attended the event in Summerlin.

Yesterday, John Edwards returned to Nevada with a stop in Las Vegas to tour UNLV’s solar site project. The project, part of UNLV’s Center for Energy Research, is used in conjunction with local alternative energy research to help find ways to utilize Nevada’s abundance of solar energy. While touring the site, Edwards once again used this opportunity to expound upon his proposed energy plan for America.

Senator Joe Biden will be in Nevada this week to speak Wednesday at the Nevada AFL CIO State Convention in Reno.

At 2:00 pm on August 22nd, Sen. Biden will participate in the Brookings Institute/UNR Opportunity ’08 Forum alongside Gov. Bill Richardson. The forum will take place at UNR in the Lawlor Events Center. The topics of the Forum will be education and competitiveness. Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007 Gov. Richardson will be in Northern Nevada for three events:

Elko County Democrats last Sunday hosted yet another mock caucus to help educate Nevadans on the caucus process. The county party welcomed voters of any and all ideological viewpoints and parties. About 30 people attended the “mockus” held at the Red Lion Inn and Casino.

The Nevada Democratic Party has taken steps recently in order to help register hundreds of new citizens. Individuals going through the citizenship process attend a swearing in ceremony that takes place on the first two Fridays of the month at the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse in downtown Las Vegas. After the ceremony individuals receive their certificate of citizenship and are now citizens of the United States.

Yesterday marked the first ever gay issues forum broadcast on live T.V. Logo, a cable TV channel that facilitates gay programming, partnered with Human Rights Campaign, a well-known gay rights advocacy organization, in order to broadcast a presidential forum concerned exclusively with issues affecting the GLBT community.

The “Los Democratas” soccer team – sponsored by the Nevada Democratic Party – officially debuted Thursday in front of a crowd of fans, activists, representatives of presidential campaigns, and members of the general public. 

Presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and John Edwards, along with Michelle Obama, will be making visits to Nevada this week.

On Monday July, 30^th the State Democratic Party held a “Mock Caucus” in Pahrump, Nevada. The event was a HUGE success and the people that attended were exposed to, and instructed on, the exciting caucus process that Nevada has.

The Obama Campaign announced that Michelle Obama will be in Reno August 9^th to meet with anyone who would like to attend. The event is taking place at the Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S. Virginia Street in Reno. This event is free and open to the general public.
